The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) is granted funds each year from taxes paid on the sale of land and property. TDA uses this money for the Agricultural Resources Conservation Fund (ARC Fund).  TDA then takes requests from each county for Best Management Practices (BMP) to address water quality issues on agricultural land. This fund is generally directed at working specifically on a watershed with the greatest need for improvement.  The Giles County SCD requests money from the ARC Fund to primarily work on Streambank Stabilization projects to fix eroding streambanks. There are instances when the SCD will be able to use the money for other BMP’s, but the SCD must obtain prior approval from the TDA Watershed Coordinator for the Giles County area. This program provides 75% reimbursement of the cost of approved projects. Below are pictures of some projects the ARC Fund has assisted in improvement over the past few years.
